Wish – bass guitar, guitar, keyboards and vocals
Another Beatles fanatic, Wish (pronounced VISH), has a clear favourite is Paul McCartney.
He started playing guitar at the age of 9 after hearing “Please Please Me” and progressed to playing the oboe in the Staffordshire County Orchestra alongside Jimmy Lea (of 70s glam rock band Slade).
He moved over to bass guitar as nobody else wanted to and turned professional in 1974 with Sundance, who released two albums on Decca and toured with Thin Lizzy, Osibisa, Leo Sayer, Wizzard, Lindisfarne and Sutherland Brothers and Quiver.
He was offered the bass player’s job in the early 1980s with The Climax Blues Band when long time friend Derek Holt left to form his own band Grand Alliance, but was beaten to it by Rhino Edwards who went on to become bassist for Status Quo.
Other local bands eventually led to him forming Backbeat with Keith who built up a large following with a reputation for powerful live performances and dodgy stage outfits.
As a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Wish’s contribution to the Acoustic Rainbow is enormous.
His higher vocal range is also ideally matched to Keith’s lower voice in the same way as Lennon and McCartney moulded their unique voices together. We are indeed blessed!
